Welcome to my home page. My name is Sue. The reason for this page
is to share some of the genealogical information I have.
My maternal grandparents are: Douglas Stewart CORNER and
Enid Elsie Torrance BOWERS. Douglas was the grandson of
William CORNER who arrived in Australia in 1838 from Sussex.
Enid's grandparents Robert BOWERS and Elizabeth Maria
JAMES came from England.
My paternal grandparents are: John Murdoch BROWN and Ada Irene JARVIS. John was born in Chile while his parents William BROWN and Margaret MURDOCH were there because of William's work in textile mills. John arrived in Australia about 1920. Ada is descended from convicts who were in Australia before 1800. Ada's grandmother Charlotte BAKER was a second generation born Australian.

CORNERS in Australia 5 generations of photos. Here you will find photos of my cousin Stewart James his father Ian James (my uncle) our grandfather Douglas Stewart, his father Stewart and his father William. This represents the CORNER male line closest to me here in Australia. That is five generations. No doubt other relatives have more generations. Information on the English CORNERS. William had two
brothers.... John and Henry. Both brothers stayed in Sussex and this
links to information I have on their lines in England.
The first CORNER in my family to come
to Australia was William CORNER.
William was born in Newhaven, Sussex England in
1815. His parents were William CORNER and Ann
GATES. Ann was a widow.
How and when William arrived in Australia is yet to be confirmed.
Family story has him arriving on the "ASIA" in 1837. As yet however I have not been able to confirm this.

William did however arrive and ended
up in Paterson in the Hunter Valley of New South
Wales.
On 20 December 1838 (by Special Licence) he
married Christina STEWART b 1828 Argyl Scotland.
They had 11 children but a number died young.
All were born in Paterson

William: b 1849 d 7 Nov 1916 SydneyAnn Margaret: b18 October 1850 d 19 Oct ober1854 Paterson (aged 4 years)
Hugh: b October 1852 d 9 October 1854 Paterson (aged 2 years)
Elizabeth: b 15 June1854 d June 1928 (probable)
Christina: b 2 January 1857 d 28 June 1932
John Stewart: b January 1859 d 27 March 1860 Paterson (aged 15 months)
Henry: b 1861 d later than 1904
Stewart: b 26 January 1863 d 31 March 1947 Paterson
Janet: b Febuary 1865 d 6 December 1865 Paterson (aged 10 months)
Frank Arthur: b 1867 d 2 January 1943 Toowoomba Queensland
Alice: b January 1869 d 9 September 1870 Paterson (aged 20 months)
His wife Christina died 23 April 1869 Her death Cert states cause of death as Diptheria and that she had been ill for 7 days. As Alice was only 3 months old at the time of her mother's death it is a wonder that she lived at all even though she died at 20months of age in September the following year.
Stewart CORNER b 1863 d 1947 Paterson N.S.W. Australia married Catherine Cameron BATHGATE in the Wesleyan Church at West Maitland on 1 June 1898. Catherine was born in 1874 in Maitland N.S.W. Australia and died in 1922.

Jean Cameron: 27 May 1907 Paterson N.S.W. Australia. d 1984
Douglas Stewart: b 14 June 1909 Paterson N.S.W. Australia. d 17 April 1999 Casino N.S.W. Australia.
Ian McDonald: b 19 December 1910 Paterson N.S.W. Australia d 4 July 1998 Hornsby N.S.W. Australia.
Douglas Stewart CORNER b 14 June 1909 Paterson d 17 April 1999 Casino N.S.W. Australia. married Enid Elsie Torrance BOWERS b 28 Febuary1909 Orange d 1976 Sydney N.S.W. Australia.
Their children are both still living so information has been limited.:
