more details on a separate page
- Local field days and farm visits -- TROPO often arranges these at relatively short notice and our web updates are less frequent, so please keep in touch by reading Going Organic or contact TROPO directly if you are new to this region and would like to know what's coming up.
- Spring Farm Visit - Saturday, November 15th 2008, 10 am
Leigh Davison
The next TROPO field day will be held at 'Dharmanada', a multiple occupancy community of
eight households at The Channon which provides much of its food from on-farm enterprises.
The 102 ha property was selected in the first decade of the 20th Century and completely
cleared within 20 years for dairying and bananas. Approximately 25% of the property is now
farmed with the remainder being encouraged to return to its original forested condition.
A small dairy herd (25 jerseys) provides milk, cheese, yogurt, butter etc, and manure for
compost which is applied to orchard and gardens.
Main focus of the field day will be the one acre communal garden which produces a wide
range of vegetables in season. Fertility is maintained by composting, green manuring and
the addition of mulch from the cow paddocks.
Directions
The property is at the end of Ross Road. Turn left off Terania Creek Road 6km north of The Channon.
