Change , before that, the Dept. of Natural Resources. His current interest
is
integrated planning. He has recently completed mapping land condition on the
North Coast of NSW. Recent products have included land use, erosion,

Ken McDonald....
...has recently become a lynchpin in the committee - arranging speakers for upcoming meetings to lighten Roy's load (silly man!). Showing a real flair for this and for running meetings he's found himself in the chair most of the time lately too! He is Land Information Officer for the NSW Department of Mineral Resources. He holds an Associate Diploma in Cartography and subsequent studies in photogrammetry geological mapping, LIS/GIS and information technology. His role is to provide cartographic and GIS services to Geological Survey, Mining Titles and Mining Inspectorate branches in the Department's Armidale office. Ken is an avid canoeist and in recent times, sailor!

Leslie
Sanderson
Leslie deserves star billing for all her involvement when
we hold our Ballina meetings and has been a long term
supporter
of the group. She is GIS/Property Administrator with Ballina Shire
Council and holds a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Data Processing.
Leslie has just completed a Grad. Dip. of GIS and Remote Sensing at Charles
Stuart Uni. Being a busy lady, Leslie has taken up TAI CHI to balance
limited resources with increasing demands. Maybe we could all benefit
from some advice! Leslie is also one of the nicest people you could
ever meet!

...although
not now involved in the organising committee, is Manager of Spatial
Producrts and Services with the NSW Department of Environment and Climate
Change. His position oversees
maintenance of
natural resource data and its conversion into suitable material for the varying
needs of the Department and the community. With increasing departmental
demands on his time he is less involved with NCSIG meetings but remains highly
supportive of the group and generally involves himself when he can.
Jeremy holds a Bachelor of Natural Resources (UNE - 1984) and has worked in soil conservation, as a GIS specialist, as Change Manager with the Crown Land Information Project, and as Resource Information Manager, overseeing the DLWC North Coast Region GIS Unit, until his current appointment.
His interests include computer programming (surprise, surprise) and water colour painting, plus just about any sport you can think of!

Other long term group members...

City Council. He holds surveying and civil engineering
qualifications. His role is to manage
design
of council assets. Gary oversees the council's GIS.
Gary
is an avid musician and is, like many of the rest of us, addicted to that
most mind destroying of all pastimes - golf (or more appropriately "flog")!
Judy is Lismore Council's "webspinner" or "webweaver" - well she's the quiet achiever behind Lismore's excellent website! Judy has been a stalwart member of the group for almost as long as Gary and as well as her other skills she's another lovely person!

...is
well...changing! Formerly Account Manager, Land and Property Information Centre
(LPI) - formerly LIC his job has changed recently to working on an address
database. His former job was to liaise with local government as well
as state and federal government departments and the private sector. Stuart
is probably still the man to talk to about quotations on digital data, customised
products and satellite imagery as he's such a nice bloke he'll steer you right
anyway! He can help with ordering all of these and can arrange demonstrations,
promotions and is the best first point of contact for group members who want
information about LIC and it's functions. Stuart has supported the group
strongly from early on and always takes the brickbats as diplomatically
as the bouquets!
Stuart is wrapped in his family but enjoys taking out his frustrations
on a squash court or bobbing about in boats.
He can be contacted at stuart.ellis@lands.nsw.gov.au

Mike is a former local government GIS specialist who is continuing to utilize
his skills within Kyogle area. He is currently undertaking flood effect area
map in conjunction with the SES, as well as enhancing the bush fire risk management
maps within this area. Mike has a web page (and when I can find out it's address
I'll let you know!). His former role was to collect and maintain all details
of engineering assets in the council area. Mike used differential sub-metre
GPS and electronic databases to record location and condition information about
engineering assets.
Mike didn't supply any interests but it sounds like he doesn't have much time anyway running around with all the above!

is
a lecturer in GIS and remote sensing at the Centre for Coastal Management,
Southern Cross University. Sumith is a long term supporter of the group. Since
joining the centre in late 1991, his principal responsibilities to develop
GIS and remote sensing research and teaching facilities and the teaching program.
From next year, current third year GIS and remote sensing unit will be replaced
with two units allowing more time for modelling with GIS and advanced image
processing. Currently, there are a number of post-graduate student projects
applying GIS and remote sensing to the issues that are related to the northeast
coastal region.
Sumith's research work concerns both conceptual and empirical aspects of GIS and remote sensing. Some of the research work currently being examined are accuracy issues of spatial data bases, fuzzy set theory, hazard risk modelling, and GIS and remote sensing applications in environmental modelling.
