We anticipate that this document be supplied with digital data sets and be accompanied by licensing information, hard copy data or other information as appropriate. It facilitates the supply of a standard set of metadata that should improve the standards of subsequent planning exercises that use the information.

Although there is now a metadata standard, this proforma was endorsed by the Commonwealth through the Australian Surveying and Land Information Group (AUSLIG). Parts of the proforma were included in the standard. The proforma is useful as a record of the basic level for recording details on spatial data sets. It is included on our site as an historical record and as a reminder that groups can initiate better use of spatial data without waiting for goverments to act. The proforma has also been promoted through the newsletter of the Australasian Urban and Regional Information Systems Association Inc. (AURISA) - which generated enquiries Australia wide.

Please visit CANRI for more information on metadata and the NSW Natural Resources Data Directory (NRDD). Here is an example of a metadata statement from NSW Department of Sustainable Natural Resources (DSNR) and here is a blank NRDD metadata proforma.
