Our aim is to help School leavers make informed
and rational choices about their working futures. We share
information and teaching programs as a group and also organise
Tertiary Awareness Days and other career information activities. The
Association is based on the North Coast of New South Wales in
Australia.
Within our Association there are a number of sub groups. Here are a
list of these sub groups and contact people.
Summerland Careers Association can be contacted
via Bill Goldie at Lismore
High School, Dalley Street ( Box 566 ) Lismore NSW 2480. Summerland
covers a diverse area of towns from the alternate lifestyle centres
of Nimbin and Byron Bay to the farming communities of Kyogle and
Casino. The centre of this region is Lismore.
Southern Cross University
services the North Coast for most of its University needs.
The North Coast
Institute of TAFE operates four campuses here with Wollongbar
TAFE being the largest campus between Newcastle and Brisbane.
Tweed Association can be contacted via Maree Broad at Mullumbimby
High School, Main Street, Mullumbimby, NSW. As Tweed links to the
Gold Coast area of Queensland, most of its students are interested in
Queensland and Gold Coast Unis and TAFEs. The area is a centre for
tourism with Kingscliff TAFE having some of the best hospitality
training facilities in the state. Both SCU and NSW TAFE have a
presence in the area.
Port Macquarie Careers Association can be contacted via David Lister
at Westport Technology High School in Port Macquarie. Port is in the
south of our region. A popular holiday destination, tourism and
hospitality are both important to this area. Students in this area
look south for their training and job opportunities. While SCU
maintains a presence in Port, most students aim to attend Newcastle,
University of New England or the Sydney Universities and TAFEs. Often
Port Macquarie Schools will link with the Newcastle Region rather
than the North Coast Region.
Coff's Harbour Association can be contacted via Chris Pearson at
Macksville High School. Coff's area has a number of fine schools. Of
particular interest is Coff's Harbour Educational Campus (CHEC). It
is an innovative campus made up of a senior school college, a TAFE
College and a campus of Southern Cross University (SCU). The area is
concerned with tourism but also is an important agricultural area.
Grafton Careers Advisers often link with this group. In the Grafton
area, Joann Kelly at South Grafton High School is an excellent
contact.
The Vocational Education Consultants
for the North Coast of New South Wales ( Australia ) are
Mr Peter Skaines
for the Tweed Area and Sharyn Lane for the Richmond Area. Sharyn
and Peter's task is to oversee the
NSW Dept of Education and
Training's policies on Vocational Education. Part of their brief
is to help Careers Advisers.
